The Big Wedding mistake Brides make and 5 Quick Fix tips

Dont run out of steam on your wedding day, here are 5 tips to help you glow through your ceremony and dance the night away at your reception!

By John Wilson – Award winning Brisbane Wedding Photographer.

As a wedding photographer who covers complete weddings I see so many Brides loosing energy and some even becoming physically ill once the evening festivities begin simply because they didn’t fuel up and snack well earlier in the day.

It sounds like such a small issue but take it from a photographer who knows, Brides loosing energy and becoming dehydrated is a sure fire way to destroy the vibe and happiness they should be enjoying.

Snack your way to wedding day bliss

You and your Bride’s maids can actually snack your way to a happy wedding day and night with just a few yummy treats that can be organized beforehand.

Here are the 5 magic ingredients all Bridal parties should use some of if not all to keep them energized and get them through to the crazy dancing and fun late into the night.

Wedding eats tip No1 – Grazing snacks

A good stash of snacks at your wedding prep will help set a good nutrition foundation for the rest of your day. A nice trail mix of nuts and/or dried fruit that can be left in bowls around the house or hotel room where all the action is. The key here is low calories and vitality boosting. Dried fruits often have their nutrients concentrated which is great and try to stick with the basic dried versions rather than the sugar coated or glazed versions.

Here are some nutty nutrients

  • Hazelnuts: fibre, potassium, folate, vitamin E
  • Pecans: fibre and antioxidants
  • Brazil nuts: fibre and selenium: just two brazil nuts a day provides 100% RDI for selenium for an adult
  • Cashews: non haem (plant based) iron and a low GI rating
  • Chestnuts: low GI, fibre and vitamin C (although much vitamin C is lost during cooking)
  • Macadamias: highest in monounsaturated fats, thiamine and manganese
  • Pine nuts: vitamin E and the arginine amino acid
  • Pistachios: protein, potassium, plant sterols and the antioxidant resveratrol
  • Walnuts: alpha linoleic acid: plant omega 3 and antioxidants
  • Almonds: protein, calcium and vitamin E

Perhaps you could assign one of your bridesmaids the task to make up a bag or two of mixed nuts and dried fruit for your wedding prep.

Wedding eats tip No2 – Avocado

If you want your skin to maintain its glow and hair to retain its shine well into the night have some avocado with your finger foods during your prep. Avocados contain antioxidants that repair and promote tissue growth and protect cells from free radical damage. I’m seeing some yummy chicken and avocado fingers here.

Wedding eats tip No3 – Herbal Tea

One of the critical factors in getting through your ceremony and making it to your reception in good form is keeping hydrated. With all the fuss going on you can easily forget to drink and if you find that drinking water regularly through the morning a bit of a drag try having a glass or two of herbal tea. It will not only hydrate you and help counter the dehydration of alcohol but will also help calm your nerves as ceremony time approaches.

Wedding eats tip No4 – Hummus

Hummus, the simple dip of chickpeas, olive oil, lemon juice and salt, is a real super hero in your wedding snacks menu. It helps balance your blood sugars which will curb food cravings, is low in fat but the protein and iron content will really help boost your energy levels. For a super energy hit what about a hummus and mashed up avocado platter on hand with heaps of carrot sticks for dipping and you’ll have all your wedding party bright and happy way into your reception! You can even take this with you for your formal photos so you and the wedding party can snack in between photos.

Wedding eats tip No5 – Sushi

To have some variety in your snacking menu try ordering a plate or two of sushi rolls. You’ll not only be exciting your taste buds with something different but boosting your energy levels. Try to get some rolls with avocado and raw veges added such as green beans. One of my favourites is crab meat and green beans sushi rolls! Assign a bridesmaid to get these sorted the day before. Some outlets will also do deliveries of their sushi.
